‘Walking the Way’ is the URC’s exciting focus on lifelong Christian discipleship and mission, and at our first church parade service this year we introduced this initiative to the church, Rainbows and Brownies, and their parents and friends.
We laid out footsteps from the front door to all parts of the church. On arrival people were given luggage labels and asked to write their names on them. These were to be the tickets for their journey.
During the service Ruth invited people to think about what they needed when they were going on a journey. Food, drink, a map, friends to travel with – these were a few suggestions. Of course we would also need a ticket, and we already had tickets for this special journey – our luggage labels.
Later in the service the children collected the tickets, stamped them, and put them into a rucksack.
During the final reflection the children gave out the Footprint charms, and the congregation were encouraged to fasten them round their wrist to remind them of Walking the Way with Jesus.
If any member of the congregation was not there on that Sunday and would like a charm, please let me know.
