Albert Einstein was born in Germany in 1879. He is now acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest scientists. Yet, when he applied to attend a college in Munich, he was turned down because they said that he ‘showed no promise’. He then worked in different jobs to get the money he needed to follow his scientific interests.
Important as knowledge is, without his sense of imagination and creativity he would not have been able to use his knowledge to make such advances in science.
It is interesting that he said:
‘Imagination is more important than knowledge.’
Einstein also said:
‘When I see the Cosmos, I can’t help but believe that there is a Divine Hand behind it all.’
He died on 18th April in 1955, having said that,
‘Only a life lived for others is worthwhile.’
PRAYER
Lord our God,
you give different gifts to each of us
and you are pleased
when we use our gifts well.
Inspire each of us to reach our potential
and use our gifts
for the benefit of others.
Enable us by the power of your Spirit
to grow in faith.
and in imagination and creativity,
living a life for others
that is worthwhile.
Amen
