What can I expect when I come to worship?
When you arrive at the church you can expect to be welcomed at the church door and given a hymn book and an order of service. You will be invited to be seated in the church.
Children are welcome at services and for younger children there are toy bags available for their use during the service. Young people usually leave the service with youth leaders following the second hymn, to continue learning about God in their own groups. However it is fine if you would prefer your children to stay in church with you.
It is usual for the worship leader to conduct a family address while the young children are present; then after they have left, a sermon or address is usually given, which can last from 10-20 minutes.
You can expect to sing four or five hymns, and hear prayers led by the Minister or lay preacher, or members of the congregation. We have prayers of adoration, confession, and prayers where we consider the plight and difficulties of God’s people and the world. There may also be short periods of silence for your own personal prayers.
A freewill offering is taken during the service, but do not feel obliged to give – just pass the bag along if you prefer. Many church members and regular attenders support the work of the church through cash donations, standing orders, or using envelopes that allow us to receive gift aid on donations.
The whole service lasts for about one hour, following which everyone is invited to enjoy a further time of fellowship with refreshments in the church hall.
