Wanted – Kingdom Makers

By common consent the Olympic volunteers, the “Games Makers”, were pivotal to the smooth running and the success of London 2012.  Many have paid tribute to the dedication, enthusiasm and good humour of the thousands who – unpaid – greeted, directed, sorted out problems, and generally enabled everyone who came to the Games to have the best possible experience.

Games Makers“We will never forget the smiles, the kindness and the support of the wonderful volunteers, the much-needed heroes of these Games,” said Jacques Rogge, President of the IOC, at the Closing Ceremony on Sunday.

How wonderful if the Kingdom of God had so many enthusiastic and tireless supporters!  What an impact we in the churches could make if thousands volunteered their time and their services!  And what a blessing if, as followers of Christ, we too were universally admired for our smiles and good humour, our kindness, our enabling attitude, and our selfless dedication!  What an Olympic legacy that would be.
