St George’s Day Celebration

A new venture for us this year: we decided to celebrate St George’s Day.  On Friday night church members and friends gathered together to enjoy a traditional roast beef dinner, complete with Yorkshire puds and roast potatoes, ably cooked by John Gibbons.  This was followed by an England trivia quiz and dessert.

Our Minister Ruth shared us with us the historical background of St George, with a few thoughts on his relevance for us today, and Ted Sherwell added some comments on the emblem of St George.  The evening was rounded off with some folk dancing from the different countries associated with St George.  This was led by Linda Melville Smith and her husband Peter, and provided much merriment and a fitting end to the evening.

A great evening of fun and fellowship was had by all!
