Rev Dr Collin Cowan has taken up his new role as General Secretary of Council for World Mission. Previously General Secretary of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, Dr Cowan is sure about the values and direction that will shape his leadership:
“I have a passion for justice,” he says. “All the things that make for relationships of integrity and credibility are things that give me energy and passion.”
He sees his role as a continuation of the work of outgoing general secretary Rev Dr Des van der Water, whose leadership has been marked by pastoral sensitivity, integrity, and a desire for justice in relationships.
“Live the Good News is a good theme for CWM to reflect on, because it focuses again on the fullness of life that Christ came to offer”, says Dr Cowan.
“If CWM can bring that message out into the street corners where we live and work, what we are really saying is that the God we believe in, the God we serve is a God who is interested in everybody, a God who is concerned about everyone. That is what the mission is all about.”
