All our work with children and young people is founded on the Charter for Children in the Church. This charter sees children and young people as equal partners with everyone else in the life of the church. They have their great contribution to make, and are seen as part of the church of today as well as, hopefully, the church of tomorrow.
We are proud to have received a Child Friendly Church award under this nationally recognised scheme that acknowledges churches that can prove that they truly welcome and involve children.
Everyone who works with the young has their CRB Certificate, and we have systems in place to ensure that our premises are a safe place for all. Training is offered to all who work with children and young people.
On Sunday mornings the whole church meets for worship, and after the second hymn children and young people go to their groups. A creche is available if needed. Occasionally we have All-Age Services, when the whole church remains together.
The ecumenical ROOTS resources are the basis for our work with young people. Children are encouraged to participate in the Communion Service when they wish to.
Activities for children during the week include our Pilots group, a national organisation sponsored by the United Reformed Church and open to both boys and girls. Pilots meet at the church on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 pm.
There is also a Toddlers group in the church hall on Friday mornings from 10 am, where pre-school children can play and parents and carers can meet. All are welcome.
The 4th and 8th Fleet Brownies and the 1st Fleet West Rainbows are affiliated to our church and meet on our premises on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
For more information about any of these groups, please see the individual section in the drop-down menu above, or contact the Church Administrator on 01252 623629 (ansaphone).
